Piet Brouwer working on multiple projects for Royal Bodewes

October 16, 2019:
In February this year, Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology successfully delivered the electrical system for the dry-cargo carriers Scot Carrier to Royal Bodewes Shipyard in Hoogezand. This was followed by Tasman in June These were the first two in a series of ten vessels for which Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology was commissioned by the Groningen yard.

Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology’s engineers are currently fitting the electrical system on the third vessel in the series, which has been named Scot Explorer. This has already been launched and the work will be completed during the week of 25 November. The company will soon start outfitting the fourth vessel, and others will follow in due course.

Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology is supplying the full electrical package for these ten vessels. This will include the engineering, switchboards and bridge consuls, as well as the shaft generator, bowthruster drive, bowthruster engine and fire detection systems. Sister company Marble Automation will provide the alarm and monitoring system, an important part of which will be the monitoring tool for the main engine and propeller shaft system. Marble’s AMCS will use a data bus to read all the crucial engine and propulsion data and display it graphically on a screen in the bridge and switchboard room.

Bodewes’s Trader Dry Cargo vessels range in length from 80 to 100 metres and have a DWT of around 5,000 tonnes. Because all ten of them are intended for different customers, Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology developed a basic concept with innovative and adaptable principles. This leaves flexibility for the technical equipment on each individual vessel, making it possible to quickly respond to customer-specific requirements such as changes in suppliers, generator setup, bridge consuls or cargo-specific requirements. The lighting package can also be composed in consultation with each customer based on LED or conventional lighting methods. A choice of various different brands is available to create a suitable whole.
