New electrical systems on Seljm

November 1, 2019:
Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology has been commissioned to replace the main switchboard and distribution panels on the wooden sailing yacht Seljm. This classic beauty was built in 1980 by the Italian shipyard Sangermani to a design by Anselmo Boretti. She has a Lloyd's 100 +A1 LMC classification.

The new main switchboard is being designed entirely on Urk and approved by Lloyd’s Register before transport to Palma de Mallorca. Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology has chosen to build the switchboard with the Cubic A/S modular system in order to make the most of the available space. One of the challenges is to redesign everything to correspond to the current situation without access to the original drawings, and to build the panel in a way that will permit it to be brought onto the yacht via the normal entrances, without major work on the wooden hull or deck.

Seljm has now arrived at STP in Palma de Mallorca, where our service technician Kornelis Romkes has disconnecting and removing the old panel – a challenge that requires careful consideration of how the former system worked. To make the best possible use of the existing cabling, a scan is being made of the connection positions that must be kept in mind in the panel-building department at Urk.

The work is scheduled for completion by the end of 2019.
