September 14th 2017: Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology has completed a project for WASA Dredging in Finland. It involved designing, building and installing comprehensive electrical solutions on board two new split barges being built at the Scheepswerf Pattje yard near Groningen.
Flexibility and precision were crucial to this project’s success.. The systems were delivered and installed to the customer’s complete satisfaction and Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology also provided the alarm system, fire detection and steering consoles for the 65-metre vessels.
A major company in the Finnish dredging sector, WASA Dredging works mainly with backhoe dredgers (floating excavators) and split barges. The hard, rocky soil under the Nordic waters often requires that the ground be softened up with explosives before backhoe dredgers can dig it up and split barges take away the dredged material.
