MS Sound Enterprise

On 28 November 2012, Sound Enterprise was handed over in Den Helder by Damen Shipyards to its Swedish client. The complete electrical system of the ‘Sound Enterprise’ was designed and installed by Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology. Following the fitting out of the hydrographic survey ship ‘Guardian’ earlier on in the year, this was another order carried out by Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology for the offshore market. The company has very efficient operational procedures and an excellent working relationship with the shipyard and other suppliers. Therefore the systems could be installed within a very short period of time and well ahead of schedule at the Damen shipyard in Den Helder.

The Twin Axe design was launched on the market in June 2011, and is the latest stage in the evolution of the extremely successful Sea Axe concept of Damen Shipyards. The Twin Axe 2610 has a length of 25.75m and is made entirely from aluminium. The unique hull shape gives the vessel minimal wave resistance, which means the crew and passengers can sail to their destination at full speed (26 knots) safely and comfortably, even in rough seas. The ship can carry between 12-24 passengers and can easily handle waves up to a height of 2.5m without any loss of performance. Extensive tests have shown that under certain conditions the impact of wave slamming on the hull is completely neutralised. Damen Shipyards developed this type of catamaran in close collaboration with the Delft University of Technology and other scientific research institutions.

Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology is proud to have been chosen as a partner in this prestigious project, which has added another unique project to the portfolio of orders carried out for the commercial shipping sector. Over the next year, another four vessels of this type are due to be built, although with somewhat different dimensions.
