Our head office is located on Urk and includes the design department, engineering, management, panel development and a large warehouse. This means Piet Brouwer Elektrotechniek can take care of the entire process in house. We have a flat organisational structure with short lines of communication between design and execution. For our clients, that means they can easily get in touch with the right person whenever they call. His first client gave him an ultimatum: either you do it or we will find someone else. With some help, Piet ultimately took the leap. \u201cIt is as much about making money as it is about helping each other. That lets you build relationships with your satisfied clients,\u201d the company&#8217;s founder &#8211; who has since passed &#8211; used to say. He is responsible for the electrical installations in all spaces and cabins as well as commissioning the systems.\\u00a0<\\\/strong><\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>Kevin\\u2019s working day always starts with a coffee but everything else varies. \\u201cSome days we lay cables, others we connect equipment or commission systems. We also regularly make adjustments together with the interior builders of the yacht on which we\\u2019re working.\\u201d<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>After a decade working at a yard, Kevin is still getting used to the many new faces around him. \\u201cI also had to learn a new \\u2018lingo\\u2019 and work methods. My activities are also entirely different to what I was used to, although I think I\\u2019ve gotten the hang of it now. Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology is a friendly family business and I love working here.\\u201d Kevin adds that the sense of solidarity between employees is one of the most unique aspects. \\u201cWe also enjoy spending time together outside of work. Many of my colleagues are in the same age bracket as me, making it all the more fun to work with them.\\u201d<br><br>Kevin has found working on the superyacht <a href=\\\"https:\\\/\\\/www.pietbrouwer.nl\\\/en\\\/references\\\/phi-403-royal-huisman\\\/\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noreferrer noopener\\\">PHI<\\\/a>&nbsp; to be an exceptional experience. \\u201cAlthough this is the first and only project I\\u2019ve worked on thus far for Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology, it involves one of the most stunning yachts I\\u2019ve seen in my entire career.\\u201d<br><br>Working on <em>PHI<\\\/em> has been special to Kevin for another reason too: \\u201cWhile finishing our activities onboard the yacht in London I glanced at the camera screen in the crew mess during a break and saw a Dutch Navy vessel right behind us. To my great surprise, I saw on the deck a former neighbour of mine who\\u2019d been working for the Navy for years. He really enjoys the level of professionalism in all projects and tasks as well as the underlying knowledge found at the company. In addition, Jan is highly appreciative of the atmosphere between colleagues: \\u201cI am part of a very close-knit team and we always join forces to get things done.\\u201d<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>The project that Jan found most impressive to date involved hybrid <a href=\\\"https:\\\/\\\/www.pietbrouwer.nl\\\/en\\\/news\\\/maritime\\\/unique-four-urk-businesses-working-at-groningen-shipyard\\\/\\\">aquaculture vessels at Scheepswerf Nauplius<\\\/a> in Groningen. \\u201cWe built an enormous installation on a very small workboat.\\u201d Jan really enjoys working at Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology. \\u201cI do something different and face fresh and exciting challenges every day. In the future I hope to become a service engineer so that I continue to see and experience new things daily and never stop learning. In August 2013 he came to Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology as an intern during his third year of college. Both parties valued the working relationship so much that Lourens also completed his final fourth year internship with us, and was immediately hired as an electrician after graduation.<\\\/strong><\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>Seven years on, he has grown considerably in his field and is currently active in various yachtbuilding and other maritime projects. Lourens installs entire electrical systems in various spaces onboard, often together with some of his Polish colleagues whom he supervises. Between projects he also takes care of smaller individual jobs and emergency service activities.<br><br>Lourens starts his day with a cup of coffee at the facilities in Urk before he and his colleagues drive to the project site to which they have been assigned. One day they might be laying cables, the next connecting units or making equipment operational. Days can also be spent meeting other parties to discuss how to install systems. \\u201cWe do sometimes encounter serious challenges, especially when our systems have to be built into very tight spaces,\\u201d says Lourens. \\u201cBut that makes the eventual successful outcome all the more satisfactory!\\u201d<br>One of the most memorable projects Lourens worked on was the <a>Tecate beer brewery<\\\/a> in Mexico. \\u201cI visited the location twice a month with a colleague. I\\u2019d never been so far from home before and it was my first brewery project too. It was fascinating to see the kind of activities Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology takes on abroad. And it was very educational, too. The great thing about working abroad is that after your hard work you have the time to explore the surroundings. One Sunday afternoon my colleague Klaas and I visited San Diego to visit and got to play the largest open-air organ in the world. That made the trip extra special!\\u201d<br><br>Lourens describes Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology as an innovative, educational and flexible business. \\u201cYou get many opportunities to learn new things, including new systems and working on significantly different projects. Pieter had just finished his technical school (LTS) studies and immediately started work as an engineering apprentice. He soon became an engineer in his own right, then a service engineer, and a decade ago he was appointed to a managerial position in the Industry &amp; Residential Housing department.<\\\/strong><\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>Pieter overseas various projects and engineers, ensures that all the materials required are ordered and holds meetings with the project managers involved. He and his team are responsible for installations at various clients (from fish processing companies to hospitality wholesalers), care homes, churches, renovations and new construction projects.<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>\\u201cIn all the years I\\u2019ve worked here I\\u2019m almost always the first person in the building,\\u201d says Pieter with a smile. \\u201cI arrive at seven and enjoy a cup of coffee before my work starts at 7:30. In the first half of the day I visit projects, go over the planning and explain what everyone needs to do. Then I send out some emails and order materials before getting down to work at the project myself and leading the team.\\u201d<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>Over the past two years Pieter has reduced the amount of physical work he undertakes in construction and increased his service activities. This is due to a serious accident he had on a renovation project when a short circuit caused Pieter to suffer 26% burns on his nails, hands, neck and head. He fell into a coma and was hospitalised for six weeks while enduring a series of operations. \\u201cMy positive attitude was my saviour,\\u201d Pieter says. \\u201cI\\u2019m someone who can\\u2019t sit still and who always keeps busy. I wanted to get back to work as soon as I could!\\u201d<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>Pieter describes Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology as a strong and well-developed company on all fronts. \\u201cI have some great colleagues and Piet Brouwer is an excellent employer. I have enjoyed working here all these years. I could have stayed home for a while after the accident, but I wanted to return to work and to my co-workers. People take care of each other here. You\\u2019re taken seriously and your ambitions and wishes are heard. He is also one of the project managers at the Power Solutions department, which involves similar activities but mainly for work abroad.<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>One of the reasons why Gerrit still enjoys working at Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology is the diversity: \\u201cEvery day is different. In addition to calculations, drawings and preparatory work for projects, I regularly travel for a site visit or visit engineers at ongoing projects. I\\u2019ve always held the same position at Piet Brouwer, but the challenges have evolved and become more substantial. The work at Power Solutions has especially enhanced the variety of my tasks. I regularly travel abroad for Power Solutions to assess or finalise projects. In all the years I have been at Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology the company has continued to develop: Almost 23 years later I\\u2019m still involved in inspiring projects.\\u201d<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>The one Gerrit remembers most is the expansion of the <a href=\\\"https:\\\/\\\/www.pietbrouwer.nl\\\/referenties\\\/suriname-paramaribo\\\/\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noreferrer noopener\\\">Parbo brewery in Suriname<\\\/a>. \\u201cIt was my first project abroad and the first time in the Tropics. I still have regular contact with the people I met there.\\u201d<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>Around the time that Gerrit joined Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology one of the engineers had to travel to South America for a project on a ship. \\u201cThis was so unusual back then that we considered informing the local newspaper. Now colleagues are traveling abroad every week. I never expected to be flying out to places such as Suriname, Panama, Haiti, both Congos, Burundi and Malaysia for work. I particularly enjoy working with the locals \\u2013 it is an enriching experience and gives you a broader world perspective.\\u201d Gerrit describes Brouwer Electrotechnology as an honest, cooperative and responsible business. \\u201cIt always strives to find the best solution for clients in an honest way. We do this together: from management to the engineers on the work floor. This made him the third generation of his family to have a working relationship with the company. \\u201cPiet Brouwer worked for my grandfather when he was young until he started his own business. Years later, my father came to work for Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology, and he enjoyed his time there very much until his death in 2003. It made me proud to join the company in 2006 in the position my dad had held in the warehouse.\\u201d <\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>Back then the warehouse was run by just two people. The team was later expanded with an extra warehouse employee and several years on Mark became warehouse manager. \\u201cI enjoyed working in the warehouse all of these years.\\u201d Mark still has fond memories of the first Power Solutions projects. \\u201cThe warehouse is indirectly involved in all projects, but the arrival of Power Solutions brought us extra challenges. We had to handle large-scale transports, purchase a much broader portfolio of products and deal with regulations related to transportation to various countries. It was great to be involved in this all.\\u201d <\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>In early 2022 Mark was appointed operational manager at Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology and became part of the management team. In this position he\\u2019s responsible for everything related to the electrotechnical projects, including ICT, the ERP system, building management for the head office on Urk, the vehicle fleet and coordination of the trainees. He is also the first point of contact for all colleagues, assesses the company work processes and strives for constant improvement. \\u201cObviously I also try to make sure that everyone can do their work in the most enjoyable way.\\u201d<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>Mark starts his working days with an hour of crossfit before arriving at his desk bright and early at 07:15 \\u201cEvery day is different and brings interesting new challenges. I try to walk round the business daily to make sure I get a feel for what\\u2019s happening on the work floor and ensure I\\u2019m available as a point of contact to all staff.\\u201d<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>Driven, flexible and unique are how Mark would describe Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology in three words. \\u201cThe strength of Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology lies in its flexibility. With regard to service, we are always available to support our clients. And our large warehouse makes our company truly unique \\u2013 with over 9000 items in stock at all times we can always respond quickly. Even other companies and private individuals know how to find us when they require specific electrotechnical products.\\u201cPiet Brouwer Electrotechnology offers its people the opportunity to develop, the work is extremely varied, and there is a great atmosphere among co-workers. One of my most memorable experiences was the company trip to Barcelona. One of his regular activities is realising tenders for clients. To do so, he carefully reads the bid book to ensure he understands exactly what the client wants. Based on this orders are placed and prices requested from suppliers. Cees then discusses and distributes the relevant tasks among the team and, once all the information has come in, summarises it in the scope of supply. In addition, Cees is involved in marketing and social media activities for Piet Brouwer Power Solutions.&nbsp;<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>\\u201cAs a relative newcomer,&nbsp;I was given a blank slate at Piet Brouwer Power Solutions and all the space I needed to optimise existing processes and establish new policy on a strategic and operational level.\\u201d Where most current commissions for Power Solutions are currently in Africa, South America and Asia, Cees is working on expanding the client database in Europe, too. \\u201cIt is a challenging process that demands a lot of time and patience, and requires us to build relations and trust.\\u201d&nbsp;<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>Cees started at Piet Brouwer&nbsp;Electrotechnology&nbsp;in March 2020, the month in which the Netherlands and much of the rest of the world went into lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. His workdays therefore mainly took place at the head office and via Zoom meetings. After a year of working in various jobs, he felt an itch to do something in the field of electrical engineering. A family member told Lub that Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology was looking for new people. Lub successfully applied and in December 2006 joined the company as a Project Engineer.<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>In 2015, Lub was promoted to Project Manager where he is responsible for everything related to specific projects. \\\"This involves making sure that drawing packages are made available to the panel builders and for the guys onboard to lay and connect the cables. I place orders for the materials needed for panel building as well as the materials used onboard. I am responsible for the planning of the project too, which means ensuring that all cabinets, materials, cables, etc. are available on time, plus enough technicians on site to do the work. Project managers also take care of the financial side of all of these activities, so no two working days are ever the same.\\\"<\\\/p>\\n<!-- \\\/wp:paragraph -->\\n\\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\\n<p>When asked which project has made the biggest impression on Lub, he answers resolutely: \\\"That can only be the <a href=\\\"https:\\\/\\\/www.pietbrouwer.nl\\\/en\\\/news\\\/wind-farm-support-vessel-acta-orion-successfully-completed\\\/\\\" target=\\\"_blank\\\" rel=\\\"noreferrer noopener\\\">Acta Orion<\\\/a>, an extensive assignment that had to be completed in a short time.
