April 16th, 2018: Royal Bodewes in the Netherlands has commissioned Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology to supply the complete electrical system on four Bodewes Trader Dry Cargo vessels. One of Piet Brouwer’s strength is the speed and flexibility with which it is able to accommodate to client planning, and this was one of the main reasons for Royal Bodewes to partner with the company on this impressive project.
As the four vessels are being realised for four different clients, Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology has developed a standard concept based on innovative and flexible starting points. This means that the technical setup of each vessel is flexible, allowing the specific wishes of each client to be quickly addressed, including any different choices of suppliers, generator setups, bridge consoles or cargo-related requirements. The lighting package can also be determined together with the client, including the choice between LED and conventional lighting. Add in a wide selection of brands and the clients are sure to have a setup that is fully in line with their requirements. Situated in the town of Hoogezand in the north-east of the Netherlands, Royal Bodewes is a family business with a history dating back over 200 years. The yard is specialised, among other things, in the construction of Dry Cargo vessels ranging between 1,500 and 12,500 tonnes of dead weight (DWT). The four vessels on which Piet Brouwer will work are between 80 and 100 metres in length and have a DWT of around 5,000 tonnes.
Construction of the first vessel has already started, with delivery due in autumn. Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology is supplying the complete electrical package, including engineering, switchboard and bridge consoles as well as the generators, bowthruster drives, bowthruster engines, and the alarm & fire detection systems. In addition, the company will realise the entire installation and commissioning. The preparations, engineering and console development are already underway.
Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology has experienced healthy growth over recent years and the company sees Royal Bodewes as an excellent addition to its expanding order portfolio among shipyards in the northern provinces of the Netherlands. Seeking a professional, reliable and flexible partner, Royal Bodewes is also pleased to work with Piet Brouwer as both companies aim to establish a long-term working relationship. Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology is confident about the partnership and looks forward to continued cooperation in the future.
