10 october 2016: Following the acquisition of fellow installation company Elektrotechniek Harlingen by Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology on 1 January of this year, Mark Heldoorn became branch manager of this latest Piet Brouwer location. Together with a colleague, he supervises the electricians in Harlingen and makes sure that everything runs smoothly there.
Mark’s day begins with a drive to the head office in Urk, where he collects ordered materials. Once back to Harlingen, he ensures that the electricians receive the necessary information and materials to focus on their work. In addition, Mark takes care of the administrative processing of the materials and formulates sales quotes. “I also try to visit customers as much as possible to check that everything is going according to plan.”
Mark has been working at Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology since 1999 and was originally working in the field. “My job as an electrician consisted mainly of repairing malfunctions and small jobs on board fishing vessels. It never got boring! The need to solve the problems as quickly as possible so that the owner could get back to making a living was always a great motivation. I met lots of different people in my work and often heard stories that really made me think.”
Mark finds it difficult to say which project he found the most memorable through the years. “I have so many good memories from my career at Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology. Every job had its own challenges. A good example might be the trawler UK-153 Lub Senior, a new build which made a big impression on me when I spent six months in Poland overseeing the construction. This was a wonderful experience from which I learned a great deal. I feel very proud every time I see this amazing trawler on the water.”
Mark describes Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology as a transparent and vibrant company. “The way that work is approached here sets us apart: nothing is too much, there is always a solution. That makes us very dynamic. Last year, we completed a project on a very large vessel in just 20 weeks. This was no small feat as it involved laying, connecting and testing some 160 kilometres of cable. It was a very challenging task but we later heard that the customer was very satisfied. Clearly, the company and its employees are doing things right!”
According to Mark, another great thing about working at Piet Brouwer Electrotechnology is that no two days are the same. “There is always a new challenge and we constantly work with new materials, requirements and colleagues. At this company everyone has the skills to work in every area.”
